Fire Sprinkler Fitter/Installer Certification: Regulations out for 45-Day Comment
Fire Sprinkler Fitter / Installer Certification
After many months of research, the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has published proposed regulations for fire sprinkler fitter/installer certification. Fire sprinkler contractors and their workers need to take 15 minutes and read through the proposed regulations, which are out for comment for 45 days.
- Similar to Electrician Certification, every worker will be required to be certified or be under direct supervision. Continuing education units will be required.
- The regulations do not apply to installation, alteration or repair of one- and two-family residential sprinkler systems.
- As proposed, certification requirements will phase-in between 12 and 18 months after the regulations takes effect.
- In its Initial Statement of Reasons, OSFM says it has met with industry stakeholders and reasonably accommodated industry’s concerns.
